Basketball Coaching
COACH
All teams will have at least one coach who is an active member at a church, and all must go through a screening process, including a criminal background check and may have to provide personal references. We do this for the safety of the kids and families involved in Upward.
We provide training for coaches and expect all who volunteer for this position to go through the training. Dates for training are given when registration begins.
- Time Commitment: 2.5 hours/week
- Skills Needed: Patience and the ability to work with kids and parents.
REFEREE
Referees are the authority on the court or field during the games. They are expected to officiate the game, as well as coach the players on the field of play to help teach the kids. We provide training for referees and expect all who volunteer for this position to go through the training. Dates for training are given when registration begins.
- Time Commitment: 1 - 3 hours/week
- Skills Needed: Patience and the ability to work with kids and parents; the ability to blow a whistle.
